Role models in patriotic emulation honoured

Held under the theme “Pride and Aspiration”, this year's “Glory to Vietnam” programme aimed to inspire the Vietnamese people's ambition to reach new heights during the era of integration and development.

Hanoi (VNA) – The 2025 edition of the “Glory to Vietnam” programme took place in Hanoi on June 22, honouring 19 exemplary collectives and individuals, including outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs, for their exceptional achievements in patriotic emulation, and national development and safeguarding.

Held under the theme “Pride and Aspiration”, the event aimed to inspire the Vietnamese people's ambition to reach new heights during the era of integration and development.

Among the 13 collectives recognised this year was Ha Long University, celebrated for its significant contributions to intellectual advancement, human resources development, and talent cultivation, thus driving socio-economic progress in Quang Ninh province, the northeastern region, and beyond.

The university has led a national-level research on the development of a green marine economy in Quang Ninh, aquaculture technology transfers, and the promotion of ecotourism and craft village models adopting digital, green, and innovative practices, contributing to sustainable local development.

In 2025, the university ranked 87th in the Vietnam National University Rankings (VNUR-2025), an 8-place rise from the previous year. It has emerged as a role model of fast development for local institutions and a source of inspiration for communities nationwide.

Among the six individuals honoured was Dr. Ngo So Phe, Rector of the School of Khmer Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities under Tra Vinh University. She is the first female rector of the institution and a shining exemplar of the Khmer ethnic community, known for her determination to advance knowledge and preserve the ethnic group's cultural identity.

Dr. Phe has devoted her career to researching and promoting the Khmer cultural heritage, with her scholarly work contributing to both cultural preservation and the improvement of material and spiritual life for the Khmer people, especially women, in Southern Vietnam.

Also recognised was Pham Dinh Duan, a coal miner from Mining Unit No. 14 of Vang Danh Coal JSC under the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group.

A Level 5/5 underground coal miner with a Master’s degree in mining engineering, Duan has worked in the industry for 20 years. He is credited with numerous technical innovations that have enhanced productivity, ensured safety, and reduced labour intensity. The efforts have brought him many rewards from the business and central authorities.

Since its inception in 2004, the “Glory to Vietnam” programme has honoured a total of 313 collectives and individuals, celebrating their inspiring contributions to the nation’s progress and spirit of patriotic emulation./.
