Hanoi (VNA) – The Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hanoi has proposed allocating 5.28 billion VND (about 201,000 USD) to present 5,280 gift packages to near-poor households and those in special difficult circumstances across the city on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026.
The funding is expected to come from the municipal “For the Poor” Fund, under which each ward will receive 30 gift packages and each commune 50 packages, with each package valued at 1 million VND.
In parallel, the Hanoi VFF Committee will advise on and coordinate Tet visits and gift-giving activities by central and city leaders; organise working delegations to deliver gifts under the city’s unified programme; and facilitate connections with businesses and benefactors to mobilise additional support for disadvantaged people.
A key highlight of the campaign will be the “Compassionate Spring – Sharing Tet” programme, slated for February 5 in Thuong Tin commune. The event aims to provide Tet gifts to vulnerable groups while promoting the spirit of compassion and solidarity in the community.
Alongside resources from the “For the Poor” Fund, political and socio-political organisations under the Hanoi VFF Committee will host various activities to support union members, association members, and workers facing difficulties during Tet. In total, about 83,800 gift packages worth nearly 74.545 billion VND will be distributed.
The capital will also roll out various practical initiatives during this period, including online Tet markets, support for workers returning home for the holiday, visits and gift-giving to care and rehabilitation centres for people with meritorious services, and Tet visits to armed forces units on duty./.
