Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand has raised its goal at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to 129 gold medals to top the home game's overall medal tally.
The target was announced on November 4 at the Sports Reporters and Photographers Association of Thailand's fifth “Meet the Press: SEA Games 2025” event.
Among the disciplines highlighted by Thai sports officials as key medal prospects are volleyball (targeting 2 golds) and baseball (2 golds). Other sports expected to contribute significantly include teqball (5 golds), lawn bowls (5 golds), handball (2 golds), basketball (2 golds), and softball (at least 1 silver).
At the 32nd SEA Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from May 5–17, 2023, Thailand ranked second overall with 108 gold, 96 silver, and 108 bronze medals. Vietnam topped the standings with 136 gold, 105 silver, and 114 bronze medals.
The 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 9–20, 2025, with Bangkok as the main venue, alongside Chonburi and Songkhla provinces./.
