Lam Dong (VNA) – State Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan inspected election preparations in Lam Dong province on February 5, underscoring the need to ensure that all stages of the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term are conducted in a strict, transparent and law-compliant manner.

Speaking at a working session with the provincial Election Committee in Phan Thiet ward, Xuan acknowledged the central province’s proactive and methodical preparations, and stressed that the forthcoming elections carry particular significance, given that Lam Dong has recently undergone administrative merger and is implementing a two-tier local administration model, with substantial changes in population distribution, ethnic composition, religious diversity and terrain conditions.

She asked the province to maintain absolute adherence to procedures set by the National Election Council, ensuring that the elections are successful not only in terms of schedule but also in personnel quality, structure and representativeness. She emphasised that progress at each stage must be closely monitored and aligned with regulations, leaving no room for procedural errors.

Earlier the same morning, the Vice President conducted an on-site inspection at Polling Station No. 16 in Phan Thiet ward. She encouraged election staff to pay close attention to facilities, technical readiness and contingency plans, reaffirming that careful preparation is essential to guaranteeing that the electoral process is carried out seriously, safely and successfully.

Luu Van Trung, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial Election Committee, briefed the delegation on the implementation of key tasks related to election preparations.

To date, Lam Dong has completed the establishment of 124 commune-level election committees in accordance with legal requirements. Localities have also set up 2,301 polling stations and issued decisions on the establishment of corresponding polling teams. Lam Dong has six constituencies for the National Assembly election, with 17 deputies to be elected; 38 constituencies for the election of the provincial People’s Council, with 85 deputies; and 1,004 constituencies for the election of commune-level People’s Councils, with a total of 2,949 deputies.

As of January 31, the provincial Election Committee had received 25 candidate dossiers for the 16th NA, 153 for the provincial People’s Council, and 5,679 for commune-level People’s Councils.

Female candidates account for a relatively high proportion, including 48% for the NA election, 40.6% for the provincial People’s Council election, and 35.39% for the commune-level People’s Councils election. The proportion of ethnic minority candidates reflects the province’s demographic characteristics, standing at 32% for NA candidates, 14.29% for provincial People’s Council candidates, and 11.11% at the commune level./.
