Tokyo (VNA) - The upcoming official visit to Vietnam by Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his spouse from April 27-29 shows the importance Japan has attached to Vietnam and the bilateral relationship, according to Obuchi Yuko, newly-elected Chairwoman of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s resident correspondents in Tokyo, Obuchi, who is a member of the House of Representatives, said that currently, the Japanese National Diet is organising its regular session from January to July. During this period, it is not easy for lawmakers to travel abroad.

However, PM Ishiba decided to take advantage of the break during the "Golden Week" to carry out diplomatic activities, and also carefully thought through his choice of destination. After thorough consideration, he decided to choose Vietnam as his first destination, as the Southeast Asian is a very important partner of Japan.

She expressed her belief that during this trip, the two countries’ leaders will exchange views and work towards the organisation of more frequent and continuous high-level exchanges, even setting up a regular schedule for bilateral high-level meetings. This will greatly contribute to promoting the relationship between the two countries, the lawmaker said.

Regarding the Japan-Vietnam relationship, Obuchi reaffirmed that this is a long-standing diplomatic relationship. Although many historical periods have gone, the two countries have built strong friendship and trust in every stage.

The lawmaker believed that this relationship will continue to develop even more positively. She also pledged to contribute her efforts to further strengthening the bilateral friendship and cooperation./.
