Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s U19 football team were unable to gain a win, losing 1-2 to Australia in the final knockout stage for Group C in the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship on October 22.

With the defeat, Vietnam’s U19 squad is the first team to be eliminated from the round, which is taking place in Indonesia.

During the match, the Australian team created many difficult situations for Vietnam’s goalkeeper Y Eli Nie. They scored the match’s opening goal at the 37th minute, by Angus Thurgate.

In the second half, the Australian side continued to play a better game than their Vietnamese peers. Folami raised the score to 2-0 at the 75th minute of the match.

Despite being led by two goals, the Vietnamese players were still extremely determined and were rewarded with a goal shortening the score to 1-2 by Le Van Nam at the 85th minute.

Previously, the Vietnamese team had suffered a 1-2 defeat to Jordan in their opening match at the tournament.

The second successive defeat forced the team to say goodbye to both the tournament and their dream of a second chance at the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2019.–VNA
