Deputy Prime Minister Trương Vinh Trong has assigned the Ministry of Heath to urgently map out a plan on the production of methadone in Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City for the treatment of drug addicts.
In a visit to Hanoi ’s first methadone-using detoxification centre on March 1, Trong, who is also the chairman of the national committee on AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and control, said Hanoi should to lead other cities and provinces in using methadone for the treatment of drug addicts this year, helping uphold the security and social order when the capital is looking forward to its 1,000 th birthday.
At present, methadone is being used on a trial basis in Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi , and has brought about positive results.
Following the first facility in Tu Liem, Hanoi plans to establish five more detoxification centres using methadone in the treatment of drug addicts./.
