Hanoi (VNA) – The Minister of Public Security and the Chairpersons of People’s Committees in provinces and centrally-run cities have been asked to enhance fire prevention and control efforts under the Prime Minister's freshly-signed dispatch.

The document follows a tragic fire in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 8 on the morning of April 2, which claimed three lives.

The Minister of Public Security and the Chairpersons of People’s Committee of provinces and cities —particularly big cities— were requested to seriously and effectively implement the PM's directions on strengthening fire prevention and fighting in the new situation, particularly Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 3, 2023.

According to the dispatch, agencies and local authorities need to step up public awareness campaigns and equip residents with essential fire prevention knowledge and skills.

Additionally, they were asked to implement measures to enhance fire and explosion safety, especially in preparation for upcoming holidays, including Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and April 30-May Day holidays.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has been tasked with visiting and supporting the bereaved family, ensuring they receive timely assistance to soon stabilise their lives.

Furthermore, the city was required to work closely with the Ministry of Public Security to direct relevant forces in handling the aftermath of the fire, swiftly investigating its cause, and strictly addressing any violations./.
