Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu is mobilising resources from central agencies, businesses, and philanthropists to provide safe, stable homes for low-income families, helping them escape poverty and achieve long-term stability.

According to Colonel Ho Viet Trieu, Director of the Bac Lieu provincial Department of Public Security, since early this year, the Ministry of Public Security has partnered with the province to fund the construction of 700 houses for impoverished and near-poor households, with a total investment of 35 billion VND (1.38 million USD).

The province has contributed an additional 7 billion VND to ensure each home receives 60 million VND (2,360 USD) in support. Authorities have carefully surveyed and selected families most in need to ensure aid reaches the right beneficiaries.

Construction has begun on two model houses, with the remaining 698 set for completion by May 19, marking President Ho Chi Minh’s 135th birthday anniversary.

Bac Lieu has established a three-level steering committee to oversee the programme, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

A recent assessment estimates that Bac Lieu needs nearly 263 billion VND (10.35 million USD) to build or renovate 2,880 homes for war veterans and families with revolutionary contributions, 1,760 homes for poor and near-poor households, and 176 homes for ethnic minority families.

By Lunar New Year 2025, 779 houses had already been completed and handed over, allowing families to celebrate the holiday in safe and comfortable homes./.
