Vietnamese army, security forces proactively join earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar

Hanoi (VNA) – Rescuers from the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), who are currently joining earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar, have raced against time to save a survivor on April 2.

While conducting rescue operations at Ottara Thiri Hospital in Nay Pyi Taw, the rescue team received information that a person trapped under the earthquake rubble was still alive. Immediately, six experienced and physically strong military personnel were tasked with coordinating with search-and-rescue forces from Turkey and Myanmar to find a way to rescue the victim.

The victim is a 26-27-year-old man, who was trapped inside the Aye Chan Thar hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. When rescuers reached the location where the victim was trapped, he was still able to speak. He said that he was in good health but lacked food and water.

All efforts are being made to find the closest access route to bring the victim out safely.

Five days after the devastating earthquake, tens of thousands of people in Nay Pyi Taw, are still living without shelter, struggling with shortages of electricity, water, and other necessities.

In response to this situation, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security's relief team not only focused on search and rescue operations but has also deployed task forces to assist residents in stabilising their lives in temporary shelters.

A team from the ministry’s rescue force was deployed on April 2 to set up two tents in Zabu Thiri town, providing shelter for residents.

Besides rescue efforts, the Vietnamese medical staff have been providing medical examinations and treatment, and distributing medicine to those injured in the earthquake./.
