Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports continued to grow in the first five months of 2025, driven by increased value of key commodities such as wood, coffee, cashew nuts, and rubber compared to the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery export turnover in May 2025 was estimated at 6.28 billion USD, up 19.6% compared to May 2024. This brought the total export value for the first five months of 2025 to 28.04 billion USD, up 15.1% year-on-year.
Wood and wooden products led all major export groups in the reviewed period, pocketing nearly 7 billion USD, up 11.5% year-on-year.
Coffee ranked second, with exports reaching 835,900 tonnes and valued at 4.79 billion USD. Notably, while the product’s export volume rose by just 0.9%, its value soared by 65.1% year-on-year.
Aquatic products came third, with May exports estimated at 900 million USD, raising the five-month total to 4.11 billion USD, up 15.1% year-on-year.
Rice exports reached 4.5 million tonnes, worth 2.34 billion USD. While volume rose 12.2%, value dropped 8.9% year-on-year.
Fruits and vegetables ranked fifth, with total export value hitting 2.24 billion USD, down 16% year-on-year.
Cashew nuts remained a key billion-dollar item. In the first five months of 2025, Vietnam exported 265,600 tonnes of cashews, generating 1.8 billion USD, down 9.1% in volume but up 14.2% in value.
Rubber also showed a similar pattern, with 532,500 tonnes exported, earning 1.02 billion USD. Despite a 7.2% decrease in volume, export value rose 18.2% compared to the same period last year.
In terms of major export markets, Asia remained the largest destination for Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products, accounting for 42% of total exports. The Americas and Europe followed with market shares of 23% and 16.1%, respectively. Africa and Oceania represented smaller markets, with shares of 3.3% and 1.3%.
Compared to the same period last year, export value in the first five months of 2025 rose by 1.8% to Asia, 17.2% to the Americas, 46.8% to Europe, 94.1% to Africa, and 4.6% to Oceania.
By single market, the United States was Vietnam’s largest export destination, accounting for 20.5% of total agro-forestry-fishery exports. China ranked second with a 17.3% share, followed by Japan at 7.3%. These three countries remained Vietnam’s top export markets for agro-forestry-fishery productHanoi (VNA)- In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will focus on both developing domestic consumption and export markets. The ministry will continue to handle market issues to facilitate the export of agricultural and aquatic products to China, the United States, Japan, and the EU, as well as open new markets with great potential such as Halal Muslim countries, the Middle East, and Africa.
Vietnam will also leverage on free trade agreements (FTAs), especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), to promote exports of key agro-forestry-fishery products, and support businesses in seeking new export orders./.
