Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- State President Luong Cuong held talks with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping on September 4, on the occasion of his presence at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the world people's victory over fascism and engagement in bilateral activities in Beijing.

President Cuong congratulated China on successfully holding the 80th anniversary celebration and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He also expressed gratitude to General Secretary and President Xi for offering congratulations and dispatching a high-level delegation led by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji to attend the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of Vietnam, as well as sending a military contingent to participate in the parade. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasised the need for game-changing measures to transform the institutional framework into a national competitive advantage while chairing the Government’s law-building session for August on September 4, which focused on reviewing 15 draft laws and one legal policy dossier.

Emphasising that building and perfecting institutions remains one of three strategic breakthroughs, the PM noted that since the start of the term, the Party, State, and Government have prioritised decisive, synchronous, and effective leadership in legal development, achieving important results contributing to national success. - A series of major trade and tourism connectivity events opened on September 4 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring Vietnam International Sourcing (VIS) 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Export Forum, and the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC) 2025.

Building on two successful editions, VIS has quickly established itself as a trusted platform for domestic and international businesses. Returning this year on a larger scale, the event has attracted 450 procurement delegations from 60 countries and territories. Alongside traditional partners such as the US, EU, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, VIS is expanding its reach into promising markets including the Middle East, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. The event offers Vietnamese enterprises a key opportunity to leverage the country’s 17 free trade agreements while reducing dependence on a limited number of markets. Read full story

- Vietnam has joined a new initiative linking leading universities across the Asia-Pacific, following the launch of the Russian-Asian Faculty (RAF) by Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, Russia, on the sidelines of the 10th Eastern Economic Forum.

Associate Professor Dr Nguyen Van Long, Rector of the University of Foreign Language Studies under the University of Da Nang, represented Vietnam at the signing ceremony. Read full story

- Nearly 1.8 million passengers used Hanoi’s two urban railway lines – the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line (Line 2A) and the Nhon – Hanoi Station line (Line 3.1, elevated section Nhon – Cau Giay) from August 21 to September 2 during the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), the Hanoi Railways Company Limited (Hanoi Metro) reported on September 3.

Particularly, between August 30 and September 2, when the capital hosted a wide range of cultural and celebratory events, Hanoi authorities directed the operator to provide free rides. Nearly 690,000 passengers benefited from this policy, including more than 468,000 on Line 2A and over 217,000 on Line 3.1. Read full story

Top legislator receives Lao foreign minister in Hanoi

The top legislator requested that the two sides continue to work closely together to effectively implement the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement, the intergovernmental cooperation agreement, and bilateral cooperation programmes, thereby contributing to preserving and developing the bilateral special traditional friendship.

NA Chairman attends rehearsal for fourth Dien Hong awards

More than 10 months after the competition’s launch, the organising board received 3,508 entries from 125 media outlets nationwide. After initial screening, 659 works proceeded to preliminary judging, from which a preliminary jury selected 91 entries for the final round. The final jury ultimately selected 64 works for awards.

PM directs tasks to boost economic growth

To fully realise the 2025 socio-economic development plan, while creating momentum for 2026, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged ministers, heads of ministry-level agencies, and chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government, along with the Prime Minister’s directives.
