A campaign to call for a hundred days without workplace accidents was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on September 27, aiming to raise awareness of safety, hygiene and efforts to prevent the mishaps.

HCM City (VNA) – A campaignto call for a hundred days without workplace accidents was launched in Ho ChiMinh City on September 27, aiming to raise awareness of safety, hygiene andefforts to prevent the mishaps.

It was jointly organised by theInternational Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce andIndustry - HCM City Branch.

According to the organisers, more than 100businesses in Vietnam have joined the campaign. They will participate intraining courses on workplace safety and hygiene, fire prevention, and payfact-finding trips to factories.

Participants will also receive regularupdates on safety requirements in the hope of preventing workplace accidentsafter the campaign.

The campaign, running until the end of thisyear, also forms part of the activities marking the centenary of the ILO.

ILO Vietnam Director Chang-Hee Lee saidboth employers and workers need to understand risks and devise necessarymeasures to prevent workplace accidents. Compensation for losses caused by suchaccidents accounts for about 3.94 percent of global gross domestic product eachyear, he noted.

In Vietnam, workplace accidents killed morethan 1,000 people and injured 8,200 others in 2018, according to statistics ofthe Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs./.

The aid package includes antibiotics, digestive medications, cold and flu remedies, and basic healthcare equipment like blood pressure monitors, blood glucose metres, bandages, and disinfectants.
