Conference focuses on climate change

A three-day conference on developing towns that are well adapted to face climate change challenges opened on March 13 in Mekong Delta's Can Tho City.
A three-day conference on developing towns that are well adapted to faceclimate change challenges opened on March 13 in Mekong Delta's Can ThoCity.

Organised by the Can Tho City People'sCommittee and the Can Tho University, the conference brought together 90experts and officials, 33 of them from Eastern Asian countries, the USand Russia.

Participants will discuss policies forclimate change adaptation, practical actions and construction ideas atgrassroots and national levels for each country.

The progress thus far made on climate change adaptation by Can Tho City will be reported at the conference.

The city is co-operating with the Commonwealth Scientific andIndustrial Research Organisation on finding ways to ensure sustainableurban development amidst climate change challengers during the 2011-15period.

Conference participants will go on a fieldtrip to study the impacts of climate change in the city as well as tasksundertaken in the region to adapt to the phenomenon.

Information collected from the conference will be sent to theAustralian Agency for International Development and AustralianDepartment of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population andCommunity for building programmes and projects for climate changeadaptation in East Asia .

A similar conferenceorganised with support from Australia-based CSIRO- SEWPaC is also beingheld in Indonesia 's MaKassar City.-VNA

Ca Mau approves investment policy for waste-to-energy plant

The waste-to-energy plant is planned for construction in Dat Moi commune, covering a total area of about 20 hectares. It will have a waste treatment capacity of approximately 600 tonnes of household waste per day and a power generation capacity of 6MW.
