Hanoi (VNA) - More than 60 Vietnamese bamboo varieties have beenplanted in the Gao Giong eco-tourism site in Cao Lanh district, the MekongDelta province of Dong Thap, as part of the site’s bamboo conservation project.

Thebamboo plants, including tre gai, tam vong and soc vang, have been planted inGao Giong cajuput forest since 2014. This is the place having the largestnumber of bamboo trees in Dong Thap.

Huynh Thanh Hien, head of the Gao Giongcajuput forest management board, said thereare now 61 bamboo species planted in the forest. Most of them have adapted tolocal soil conditions and the atmosphere well.

Bamboo trees of various species are planted across the forest, creatingfresh shade and a rustic beauty for visitors to the locality.

Luu Thi My Diem, a tourist from NinhThuan province, said she felt veryrelaxed while spending time here with her friend under the cool shadow and pureair created by the bamboo.

If young visitors come here to find an airy space, for old people, bambooreminds them of a kind of tree that has close attachment to their lives.

Luong Van Bay, a resident in Cao Lanhdistrict, said the bamboo is plantedto prevent soil erosion. Besides, it creates fresh air and can be used for manypurposes such as agricultural tools, building material and also as anornamental tree.

The forest management board is collecting bamboo species from otherSoutheast Asian and European countries.

In 2018, the board plans to plant bamboos to form a mapof Vietnam covering 15 hectares in the Gao Giong eco-tourism area.-VNA

Hanoi to launch 5,000 public electric bicycles
