A Songkran festival in Thailand (Source: AFP) Hai Phong (VNA) – A friendship exchange with Lao,Thai and Myanmar students pursuing education in the northern port city of HaiPhong was held in the locality on April 11.
The event was meant to celebrate the traditional New Year ofLaos, Thailand and Myanmar which falls on April 13-16, thus contributing toraising mutual understanding of customs and culture of each nation andfostering special friendship between Vietnam and the three countries.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen VanThanh said the traditional New Year festival known as Bunpimay in Laos,Songkran in Thailand and Thingyan in Myanmar is a chance for people in eachcountry to show their love and respect as well as the sense of responsibilityfor preserving and upholding the traditional culture and arts.
He wished Laos, Thailand and Myanmar sustainable developmentand urged Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Myanmar students to become culturalambassadors to nurture the ties among countries founded by generations ofleaders and people.
Participants at the event were treated to traditional musicand dance performances staged by students.-VNA
