HCM City (VNA) – The Road-Railway Traffic Police Division (PC08) underthe Ho Chi Minh City Department of Police on January 15 launched abreath-testing campaign on drivers in 24 districts of the city.
Lieut. Col. Huynh Trung Phong, head of the division, said drivers will be testedfor alcohol and stimulants before, during, and after the Tet (Lunar New Year)festival, which lasts from February 2-10.
Accordingly, the testingwill be carried out between 18:00 and 2:00 of the next day from now untilFebruary 16, targeting drivers of cars, buses, trucks, and motorbikes, he said.
The country’s largesteconomic hub reported 3,643 traffic accidents in 2018 that killed 702 peopleand injured 2,517 others, down 245 cases, three deaths and 440 injured ascompared with 2017.
According to the NationalCommittee for Traffic Safety, up to 18,736 traffic accidents occurred acrossthe country last year, killing 8,248 and injuring 14,802 others. Thefigures represented year-on-year decreases of 1,348 cases, 33 deaths, and 2,238injured people, respectively.-VNA
