Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesia Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has confirmed that Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan will be ready to function as Indonesia’s political capital in 2028.
All construction activities at IKN are aimed at ensuring the city is prepared to assume its role as the political capital by 2028, OIKN Secretary Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto said on December 18.
According to the official, the acceleration of IKN development has been agreed upon through the signing of six supervision work packages for the construction of strategic infrastructure in the legislative and judicial areas, which will serve as the centre of the national government.
The signing of these supervision contracts has strengthened the foundation for Phase Two of IKN development (2025–2028), demonstrating the capital’s readiness to become the political capital by 2028, he said, adding that this process is in line with the mandate of Presidential Regulation No. 79 of 2025.
The six supervision packages include oversight of road construction in the legislative complex (December 2025–October 2027); supervision of road construction in supporting areas (December 2025–December 2027); supervision of supporting infrastructure areas; supervision of Embung 1B and Embung 1C reservoir construction; and supervision of retention pond construction, with contracts extending until November 2027.
To date, 26 of the 28 packages under Phase Two have been signed, including 14 construction packages and 12 construction management and supervision packages, indicating that project implementation remains on schedule./.
