Khmer people in Soc Trang celebrate Sene Dolta Festival

Sene Dolta, a traditional festival of the Khmer ethnic people in the Mekong Delta, honors filial piety and pays tribute to ancestors who contributed to the nation’s building and defense. In Soc Trang province, over 400,000 Khmer residents are celebrating this year’s festival, which runs from October 1 to 3.

As always, Mr. Huynh Suong’s family in My Thuan commune, My Tu district, decorates their home and prepares a feast to offer to their ancestors, following tradition. The homemade dishes symbolize the current generation’s respect and remembrance while passing down family traditions to younger members.

Beyond honoring the deceased, families gather to share a meal, where elders pass on life lessons to younger generations.

Soc Trang province’s leadership remains committed to promoting the Khmer people’s intangible cultural heritage, such as Romvong folk dance, and preserving the Khmer language and script.

In celebration of this year's Sene Dolta Festival, hundreds of new homes have been built or repaired, and over 4,500 Khmer households have received vocational support, allowing the community to celebrate with added warmth and happiness./.
