Hanoi (VNA) – The Lao Women’s Union on March 6 held a ceremony in Vientiane to mark International Women’s Day (March 8), highlighting the country’s commitment to protecting women’s rights and interests, promoting gender equality, and strengthening the role of women in society.
Addressing the event, President of the Lao Women’s Union Aly Vongnobountham said the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Lao Government have established policies and legal frameworks to promote women’s development, safeguard women’s rights and interests, and advance gender equality.
She stressed the importance of promoting women's leadership role, noting that their participation is crucial to both national and global development.
As part of the celebration, the union also organised a series of seminars to share knowledge and experience related to women’s development. The discussions focused on a range of issues, including girls’ access to education, proper nutrition for women and children, economic empowerment, food and environmental security, and improving women’s access to justice./.
