Laos marks International Women’s Day

The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Lao Government have established policies and legal frameworks to promote women’s development, safeguard women’s rights and interests, and advance gender equality.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Lao Women’s Union on March 6 held a ceremony in Vientiane to mark International Women’s Day (March 8), highlighting the country’s commitment to protecting women’s rights and interests, promoting gender equality, and strengthening the role of women in society.

Addressing the event, President of the Lao Women’s Union Aly Vongnobountham said the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Lao Government have established policies and legal frameworks to promote women’s development, safeguard women’s rights and interests, and advance gender equality.

She stressed the importance of promoting women's leadership role, noting that their participation is crucial to both national and global development.

As part of the celebration, the union also organised a series of seminars to share knowledge and experience related to women’s development. The discussions focused on a range of issues, including girls’ access to education, proper nutrition for women and children, economic empowerment, food and environmental security, and improving women’s access to justice./.

Laos announces results of 10th National Assembly election

Speaking at the press briefing, Sounthone Xayachak, Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly of Laos said that a total of 175 candidates were elected as deputies to the 10th National Assembly across 18 constituencies nationwide. Among them, 52 are women, accounting for 29.71% of the total number of deputies.
