Hanoi (VNA) – The Investigation Agency of the Supreme People’s Procuracy on January 14 issued a decision to launch an investigation into and an order to temporarily detain Nguyen Van Buong, former Chief Judge of the High-level People’s Court in Da Nang city, for bribe acceptance.
This marks a new development in Phase 2 of the case involving bribe offering, bribery brokerage and bribe acceptance at the High-level People’s Court in Da Nang. The case is under the supervision of the Central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Corruption, Wastefulness and Negative Phenomena.
Buong, former senior judge and former Chief Judge of the High-level People’s Court in Da Nang, faces the charge of "accepting bribe" under Point a, Clause 4, Article 354 of the Penal Code.
Regarding Phase 1 of the case, on December 24, 2025, the Hanoi People’s Court handed down verdicts against 28 defendants in the case of bribe offering, bribery brokerage and bribe acceptance that occurred at the High-level People’s Court in Da Nang and several localities.
Among those brought to trial were 10 former leaders, judges and civil servants of the High-level People’s Court in Da Nang and local people’s courts; three former procurators and employees of the procuracy sector; two former enforcement officers and civil servants of civil judgment enforcement agencies; and four lawyers and staff members of law offices. The remaining nine were litigants or relatives of litigants involved in related cases.
