- Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with hisPanamanian counterpart Érika Mouynes in Hanoi on April 5 to discuss ways tostrengthen partnership between the two countries across all fields includingpolitics, diplomacy, economy, trade and agriculture as well as bilateral coordinationat international and multilateral forums. - A conference took place in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on April 5,spotlighting the delta’s implementation of a national target programme forsocio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for2021-2025.

The national target programme targets to reduce the number of communes andhamlets with special difficulties by 50 percent by 2025; and basically put thepercentage to zero percent by 2030. Its first stage is being rolled out from2021-25. The NA has approved more than 137 trillion VND (5.98 billion USD) toimplement the programme from now to the end of 2025. Read full story

- USAID and the Ministry of Planning and Investment onApril 5 launched the Mekong Innovation Initiative to help Vietnam advance thedigital economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution through developing a morerobust, digitally-ready workforce and mobilise resources to support innovationin the Mekong Region.

The initiative will help address a growing demand fordigital skills across Vietnam’s economy by training 500 individuals in theMekong Region in digital transformation and e-commerce skills, unlocking newemployment opportunities.
