- Improving mechanisms and policies on food safety must aim to best protect public health, helping people feel more secure when using daily food products while creating a transparent and favourable environment for legitimate food producers and traders, said Party General Secretary To Lam on March 11.

Chairing the first-quarter meeting of the Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee on Perfecting Institutions and Laws, he underlined that violations involving the production and trading of substandard food threatening public health must be handled strictly. Read full story

- The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) opened a new stage in Vietnam’s renewal and development process, according to Professor Mi Liang, Director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University of China.

- Media outlets and researchers in the US and other countries have offered various assessments of Vietnam’s upcoming election of deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term, highlighting the event as an important political milestone in the country’s development process.

In its article titled “Ten Elections to Watch in 2026,” the US-based Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) listed Vietnam’s National Assembly and People’s Council election among notable political events of the year. - The first Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2026 opened in Hanoi on March 11, marking the start of a series of activities during Vietnam’s CPTPP chairmanship this year.

The meeting, held in a hybrid format, brings together senior officials and experts from CPTPP member economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the UK and the host country, while representatives from Mexico joined the opening session online. - Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has made a notable step in the Southeast Asian market after signing agreements to supply a total of 20,000 electric vehicles (EVs) to two transport companies in Indonesia.

- Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) in New York, in his capacity as the President-designate of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), chaired a series of consultations with regional groups and member states at UN bodies in Geneva from March 9–10.

The professor noted that summarising four decades of experience with Doi Moi is essential for further refining Vietnam’s development model in the coming period. Khanh Hoa gears up for elections, facilitates voting for tourists

Thanh requested a thorough review of voter lists to ensure all eligible voters can exercise their rights. Polling teams were asked to establish advisory groups to assist voters when needed. Tenth Vietnam–China border defence friendship exchange to feature innovations

Australian expert hails performance of 15th NA, People’s Councils at all levels
