- The Vietnamese Party and State always attach much importance to strengthening cooperation with the UK, building on past achievements to advance shared interests and contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam has said.

At a meeting with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) Robert Griffiths in London on October 29 as part of his official visit to the European country, Party General Secretary Lam said that his trip aims at enhancing the cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted that Vietnam wishes to learn from the UK’s experience in policy formulation and long-term national development planning in the new period. Read full story

- Vietnam stands ready to cooperate with partners in implementing programmes and projects on energy, digital economy, circular economy, knowledge-based economy, and high-quality human resource training, State President Luong Cuong said at a banquet for APEC leaders, hosted by President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Lee Jae Myung on October 29 evening.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered revision of overlapping regulations and building of a job-position framework as the basis for appropriate staffing to consolidate the two-tier local government system in November.

Presiding the Government meeting on the implementation of the two-tier local government model in Hanoi on October 29, PM Chinh hailed ministries, sectors, and localities’ efforts in operating the streamlined apparatus which has shown improvements in public service delivery. However, he pointed out ongoing institutional obstacles and human resources gaps, highlighting some grassroots public servants and officials lack professional expertise, management skills, legal knowledge, and digital understanding. - The Vietnamese Party, State, and people always value and give the top priority to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man told Chief Justice of the Lao Supreme People’s Court Viengthong Siphandon during a reception in Hanoi on October 29.

- A ceremony was held in China's Chongqing city on October 29 to inaugurate the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing, marking a new milestone in friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and between Vietnam and China's western region in particular.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh emphasised that the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing underscores the consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and State to continuously strengthen and expand friendship and cooperation with China. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed Decision No. 2400/QD-TTg approving an emergency relief package worth 350 billion VND (13.2 million USD) to support Hue City and the central provinces of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai in recovering from severe flooding triggered by recent heavy rains.

The funds, drawn from the 2025 central budget reserve, will help localities meet urgent needs and restore livelihoods, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF). Hue will receive 150 billion VND, while Quang Tri and Quang Ngai will each receive 100 billion VND, based on the ministry’s proposal submitted on October 29. Read full story

- The Chairperson of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has endorsed a proposal to shift the starting point of the Can Gio metro line from Tan Thuan Station to Ben Thanh Station, enabling a direct connection with metro line No.1 (Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien).

16th NA reviews amendments to four tax-related laws on April 21

Lawmakers are expected to discuss the supplementary assessment of the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan and state budget, as well as performance in the early months of 2026.
