- Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived in London on October 28 morning (local time), starting their three-day official visit to the UK at the invitation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Upon arrival in the London Stansted Airport, General Secretary Lam and his entourage were greeted by Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Seema Malhotra; UK Ambassador to Vietnam Iran Frew; and Stephen Walton, an official from the FCDO. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh joined other ASEAN leaders and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at the ASEAN–New Zealand Commemorative Summit on October 28, marking the 50th anniversary of their partnership.
At the meeting, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the ASEAN Chair for 2025, along with other ASEAN leaders and PM Luxon, highly valued Vietnam’s contributions as the current coordinator of ASEAN–New Zealand dialogue relations for 2024–2027. They commended Vietnam for actively facilitating negotiations that led to the successful elevation of ASEAN-New Zealand ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership — a new milestone laying the foundation for deeper, broader cooperation in the years ahead. - The “Nhan tai Dat Viet” (Vietnamese Talent) Awards have reflected the pillars of sustainable national development while encouraging and spreading innovative values in the community, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man said while attending the 18th award ceremony in Hanoi on October 27.
Initiated by the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the awards were originally established to identify and honour outstanding achievements in information technology. Over two decades, the awards have expanded to multiple scientific fields, attracting more than 7,500 participants and over 3,500 entries. To date, more than 210 projects have been honoured, with over 50 commercialised and reaching regional and international markets. Read full story
- The People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), on October 28 broke ground on a social protection and rehabilitation centre for persons with disabilities (PWD) in Nam Dong Ha ward.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hoang Xuan Tan said the project aims not only to build a modern facility but also to establish a comprehensive welfare and rehabilitation model. - Heavy rainfall continues to batter central Vietnam, triggering severe flooding along major rivers in Hue and Da Nang, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).
The deluge stems from a combination of atmospheric factors, including a low-altitude cold air mass, a northward movement of the intertropical convergence zone and humid easterly winds at elevations between 1,500m and 5,000m, NCHMF Director Assoc. Prof Mai Van Khiem said, adding that this configuration is a classic driver of prolonged, high-intensity rainfall in the region. Read full story
- The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations under the Ministry of National Defence on October 27 launched a training course on United Nations peacekeeping operations for female military officers, with support from UN Women and Australia.
The course, which will runs until November 14 at the department’s headquarters in Hanoi, is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and professional skills in UN peacekeeping for female officers from the Vietnam People’s Army and several other UN member countries. It aims to help them prepare for deployment to UN peacekeeping missions while and promoting women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in global peace operations – a key goal of the United Nations./.
