- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam met Vietnamese intellectuals in Houston city on September 22 (local time) as part of his trip to the US.

The top Vietnamese leader is in the US to attend the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79), and hold working sessions in the country. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 21 received Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Ri Sung Guk.

Chinh congratulated Ri on his appointment and spoke highly of the DPRK for sending an experienced diplomat to work in Vietnam, which shows the importance that the DPRK attaches to its cooperative relationship with the country. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 21 chaired a meeting between Cabinet members and leaders of 13 joint stock commercial banks to seek measures to promote national socio-economic development.

The PM asked participants to give accurate and fair assessments on the monetary policy and macroeconomic management of the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), including issues related to liquidity, interest rates, exchange rates, credit room, credit growth, and lending interest rates in the current context, and to propose tasks and solutions on monetary policy in the coming time. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 22 asked the northern province of Bac Ninh to optimise its potential, affirm itself, and persistently pursue its goals.

Addressing a conference announcing the provincial master plan and promoting investment in Bac Ninh, the government leader said Bac Ninh and other localities should pay more attention to social housing, which together with transport, social, health care, and education infrastructure, would help lure more investments. - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam’s State visit to Cuba from September 25-27 aims to implement the foreign policy set forth at the 13th National Party Congress, reaffirming Vietnam's high regard for and desire to strengthen relations with traditional friends.

It will demonstrate the steadfast, loyal, and exemplary solidarity of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam with their Cuban counterparts, said Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Chairman of the committee’s Commission for External Relations, in an interview granted to the press ahead of the visit. - The General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army on September 21 ordered all military units to stop training for a previously planned parade to mark the 80th founding anniversary of the VPA (December 22).

In a document, it noted that Typhoon Yagi, the third storm arising in the East Sea this year, has caused heavy losses in human lives and property and serious damage to socio-economic infrastructures in northern localities. Read full story

- Vietnam posted a trade surplus of 2.41 billion USD with the Philippines in the first eight months of 2024, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Two-way trade reached a total value of 5.7 billion USD, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Read full story

- Vietnam’s exports to Singapore saw a substantial increase in August, contributing to a 31.1% year-on-year rise in shipments to the city state in the first eight months of 2024, the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore has reported.

Last month, Vietnam's exports to Singapore surged by 58.4%, reaching 876.3 million SGD (678.6 million USD), driven by the strong performance of electronics, machinery, and equipment sectors. This growth made Vietnam Singapore's 18th largest export partner. Read full story

- From now until the end of the year, many trade promotion and consumer demand stimulation programmes will be launched to boost the domestic market.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), recovery of domestic consumption and production, along with the strong growth of tourism, has positively contributed to the growth of the trade and service sector since the beginning of the year. Read full story

- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment kicked off the 2024 "Clean Up the World" campaign in Hanoi on September 22.
