The 23 rd session of the National Assembly’s 12 th Standing Committee opened on September 9 to discuss eight new bills.

Under discussion from now until September 18, the draft laws include one on natural resources, laws on housing and land taxes, people with disabilities, the efficient use of energy, adoption, the execution of criminal charges as well as the amended laws on Vietnam ’s State bank and credit organisations.

The NA Standing Committee will also look into the prevention of and fight against corruption as well as the detection and handling of corrupt acts which are committed by government agencies.

It will debate reports on the settlement of citizens’ complaints in 2009 and discuss the 2009 reports by the heads of the Supreme Court and the People’s Supreme Procuracy.

During the meeting, Government reports on the implementation of judicial sentences and the fight against crime and corruption in 2009 will also be covered.

In its opening session, the NA standing committee agreed on the need to create a law on taxes levied on the exploitation of natural resources, given the fact that the operations are widely conducted in an ineffective and arbitrary manner, draining the country of its natural resources and worsening environmental pollution./.
