Thousands offamilies abandoned their homes and moved to resettlement areas fordevelopment of the Son La hydro-power plant, which started constructionin late 2006.
Four of the total six turbines for the 2,400MW plant have been operational and the final two are expected to beready by the end of this year, three years ahead of schedule.
The president efforts will “contribute a big part to the country’s development,” said the president.
Once completed, the 2.78 billion USD plant will be capable of generating 10,227 billion kWh of electricity a year on average.
The also asked the project’s management board to maintain the plant’sconstruction quality and to help the local people soon resettle intotheir new homes in Muong La district.
Sang also visitedSon La Rubber JSC and Phieng Bung 1 Village, where many local people nowwork and live after sacrificing their land for the plant.
Admitting that the new lives of many families are still very harsh,Sang requested the local government to create more favourable conditionsfor the people to improve their living standards.-VNA
