Gia Lai (VNA) – Over 1,000 residents in Ia Krai commune, the central province of Gia Lai, received health insurance cards on November 13, part of a national emulation movement calling on the whole country to join hands for the poor and the Vietnam Social Security (VSS) initiative on providing health insurance cards for disadvantaged people ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet).
The programme was sponsored by the Binh Dien – Mekong Joint Stock Company and the Gia Lai branch of the Olam Company Limited.
Speaking at the event, Vu Manh Chu, Director of the Gia Lai VSS Office, highlighted that providing health insurance cards for disadvantaged residents is a meaningful humanitarian activity that demonstrates the community’s spirit of solidarity and mutual support. He noted that the programme also helps spread the health insurance policy to people in remote and mountainous areas.
Chu expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their support, which helps mobilise resources to reach more households in need, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable community.
Ro Cham Khiu from Jrang Blo village, one of the beneficiaries, expressed heartfelt thanks for the timely support, which helps reduce financial burdens for local residents.
On behalf of local authorities, Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ia Krai commune, commended the programme, emphasising that the commune coordinated with the local VSS sector to ensure the cards reached the most deserving residents.
He said the initiative aims to not only lower medical costs but also strengthen social welfare and support sustainable poverty reduction. Ia Krai commune will continue working with the VSS sector to promote health insurance awareness and encourage wider participation, helping expand universal coverage across the community./.
