Hanoi (VNA) - Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (HTV) has recalled more than 13,000 Hyundai Tucson vehicles sold in the Vietnamese market to inspect and update the software of the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system, according to the National Competition Commission under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The recall covers Hyundai Tucson vehicles manufactured between September 27, 2024 and June 2, 2026 and distributed by HTV.
According to the company, the software update is intended to fine-tune the FCA system by reducing its sensitivity and optimising operating parameters while maintaining its core safety functions.
The programme is jointly implemented by the Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Auto Joint Venture JSC, which is responsible for customer notifications and recall operations, and Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Auto Manufacturing JSC, which is responsible for technical assessment and corrective measures. Both companies are based in Gian Khau Industrial Park, Gia Tran commune, Ninh Binh province.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified via phone calls, SMS messages, email where available, the company's official website, and its nationwide network of authorised dealerships. The inspection and software update will be provided free of charge at authorised Hyundai Thanh Cong dealers.
The recall programme began on June 29, with each vehicle expected to require about 20 minutes for inspection and software installation.
Hyundai Thanh Cong said the FCA system is designed to detect vehicles ahead as well as motorcycles, pedestrians and cyclists, providing warnings and braking assistance when necessary. However, under certain traffic conditions, the system may issue visual and audible alerts and intervene earlier than intended, potentially surprising drivers and nearby road users.
The company stressed that the software update only adjusts the system's operating parameters to ensure smoother performance without affecting its essential safety functions.
It added that no accidents, injuries or consumer losses related to the issue have been reported. Nevertheless, the company is proactively carrying out the free software update and has established a customer support hotline.
The commission said it will continue monitoring the recall programme as part of its consumer protection responsibilities and called on the media to help disseminate information so affected vehicle owners are aware of the recall./.
