Trinh Viet Hung appointed Secretary of Lao Cai provincial Party Committee

The decision was announced at the first congress of the province’s Party organisation for the 2025–2030 term, which opened on September 29 with the participation of 440 official delegates representing over 119,000 Party members.

Lao Cai (VNA) – Trinh Viet Hung, an alternate member of the Party Central Committee, has been appointed Secretary of the Lao Cai provincial Party Committee for the 2025–2030 tenure.

The decision was announced at the first congress of the province’s Party organisation for the 2025–2030 term, which opened on September 29 with the participation of 440 official delegates representing over 119,000 Party members.

The provincial Party Committee for the new term consists of 65 members, with a Standing Board of 17.

It was reported at the meeting that despite numerous challenges during the 2020–2025 term, the Party organisation, authorities, and people of Lao Cai and Yen Bai, which were merged in July to form the new Lao Cai province, maximised internal strengths, flexibly mobilised external resources, and achieved significant results in socio-economic development, national defence, security, and foreign affairs.

From 2020–2025, Lao Cai’s average annual GRDP growth reached 6.92%, with the economic scale expanding to nearly 143 trillion VND (5.41 billion USD) -1.63 times higher than in 2020.

After the merger, the province now has 37 of its 89 communes meeting new rural development standards. Tourism has surged, with more than 10 million visitors expected in 2025 and estimated revenue of nearly 46.46 trillion VND.

Addressing the congress, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung praised the efforts and achievements of the provincial Party organisation, authorities, and people during the past term. He also commended preparations for the congress and its strategic vision, reflected in 17 key projects.

The official urged the Party organisation to fully recognise the province’s special strategic position as both a borderland “shield” of the nation and an international gateway along the Kunming–Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong economic corridor. He called for the establishment of a new growth model, restructuring of key sectors based on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, and breakthroughs strong enough to help Lao Cai achieve double-digit growth./.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
