Vietnam won the sixth gold medal in the Vovinam competition on the second day of the third Asian Indoor Games on November 1.

Vo Nguyen Linh, the host country’s world champion, defeated Indian, Cambodian and Iranian rivals in the men’s 60kg category to be the champion, while Iran ’s Mohammad Hossein took the silver and Mahadeva of India and Serey Ratha of Cambodia shared the bronze medal.

In the women’s 50kg category, Lao artist Khamvilaythong pocketed a gold medal after a 4-0 victory against her Indian rival, Pratiksha Santosh, in the final match. The bronze medal went to Purnama Sari from Indonesia .

In the women’s single performance event, Pratiksha Santosh brought a gold medal to India , Ahamadi Munir of Iran got the silver and Cambodian Vilay Nang, the bronze.

Meanwhile, Indonesian artist Putu Yudi Surya took the lead at the men’s performance event with 288 points. Sirivanh Khamphi of Laos and Ahmadi Mohsen of Iran came next with 278 and 276 points, respectively.

The Vietnamese fin swimming team bagged the second gold medal thanks to a new Asia record in the men’s 100m bi-fin event set by Nguyen Nhat Tu. Tu set a time of 44”59, breaking the previous record of 45”07.

The Bowling competition at the AIG 3 kicked off at the Saigon Superbowl Centre in Ho Chi Minh City on the same day with the participation of 37 athletes from 20 Asian countries and territories.

Four Vietnamese bowlers attending the event include Ngo Xuan Giang, Tran Binh Minh, Nguyen Thanh Pho and Le Cong Hung.

Naig Obaq from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) surpassed other rivals to take gold in the men’s singles event with 222 points per game. He came second at the AIG 2 in Macau in 2007.

The ASIAD 2006 champion Choi Bok Eum of the Republic of Korea won the silver medal while the Philippines ’ Biboy Rivera and Kuwait ’s Abbas Jassim shared the bronze medal./.
