Vietnam, China localities cooperate in solar energy

A workshop promoting solar energy technology transfer between Ho ChiMinh City and China’s Guangxi province was held in the city on April 18.

Jointly organised by the municipal Centre for Science andTechnology Information and the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Centre,the event offered a good chance to Vietnamese enterprises to get updatedon new technologies in this field and seek cooperation opportunitieswith Chinese partners.

Participants focused their discussionon the trend of solar energy development in both nations as well as themodels of cooperation and technology transfer, between the two sides inthe field in recent time.

Vietnam’s policy in developingsolar energy was also introduced at the event. Under the country’snational energy development strategy to 2020 and a vision to 2050,renewable energy will account for 5 percent of total electricity outputby 2020 and 11 percent 30 years later. Meanwhile, Chinese guestsshared their country’s experience in popularising solar energy andpresent their solar cell production technologies.

According toPhan Minh Tan, Director of the city’s Department of Science andTechnology, the municipal authorities has been making every effort topromote the sector through incentives for investment in researching anddeveloping new and renewable energy sources. However, the high cost ishindering the sector’s development in Vietnam, he said.-VNA
