August 12, 2025 marked a historic milestone in Vietnam’s national technology as the country received its first-ever export order for 5,000 cargo UAVs to the Republic of Korea.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between Vietnam’s CT Group and an emerging UAV technology company from the Republic of Korea during the Vietnam–RoK Economic Forum held on August 12 in Seoul.

General Secretary To Lam and RoK Prime Minister Kim Min Seok, along with senior delegates from both countries, witnessed the signing and handover of cooperation agreements.

Mastering all core technologies in UAV manufacturing affirms the strategic role of Vietnamese enterprises on the global technology map.

UAVs have now become one of the most significant technologies, with widespread applications across industries, urban development, consumer markets, as well as in military, security, and even the defence capabilities of nations and entire regions.

Securing an export order for cargo UAVs to such a high-end and demanding market as the Republic of Korea demonstrates the advancement of Vietnamese enterprises, while also opening wide “doors” for Vietnamese technology groups like CT Group to expand exports to many other countries worldwide.

According to CT Group, its heavy cargo UAV models with capacities ranging from 60kg to 300kg boast a localisation rate of up to 85%. Vietnam’s proprietary technologies have been highly valued by many countries, including the Republic of Korea. Its ability to independently design semiconductor chips for UAVs gives CT UAV a distinct competitive advantage.

This landmark event shows that Vietnam is ready to join the global technology race at a higher level. It not only fosters national economic growth but also elevates Vietnam’s prestige and standing on the international stage.

Mastering UAV technology is also opening a new era for Vietnam – the era of aerospace automation, where flying robots create a new, higher level of social productivity.

Combined with semiconductor technology and network-based location identification systems, specialised UAV technologies for digital transformation on land, in cities, rivers and seas, plains and mountains have enabled Vietnamese enterprises to establish a strong technical foundation supporting the comprehensive digital transformation process.

Alongside the announcement of the export of 5,000 UAVs to the Republic of Korea, CT Group also revealed that it has received an order to export 100 million semiconductor chips to a Korean partner.

For an emerging Asian nation like Vietnam, stepping directly into the semiconductor “playground” demonstrates a bold, determined Vietnam that dares to take on highly challenging industries such as semiconductors./.
