Hanoi(VNA) - The Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) will support and shareexperiences as well as technologies with Vietnam in dealing with water-relatedissues.
An agreement tothis effect was signed between K-Water and the General Department of Irrigationunder Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in Hanoion March 22.
Accordingly, K-Waterwill assist the Vietnamese side in monitoring and operating reservoirs toreduce floods and clean water supply in rural areas.
K-Water VicePresident Park Won-cheol said the agreement will create a foundation forcooperation in irrigation between the two countries.
K-Water hasjoined a number of irrigation projects in Vietnamese localities such as Phu Yenprovince and Da Nang city in the central region, he said, adding that thecorporation is completing procedures for a water treatment project in thecentral province of Thua Thien-Hue.
Vietnam and theRoK share many similarities in irrigation systems, thus K-Water wants tocooperate with the country in order to improve its irrigation systems, he noted.
Park saidfollowing the signing of the deal, K-Water will dispatch its staff to Vietnamto work with the MARD on contents of the agreement.
Deputy Minister ofAgriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang said Vietnam is running manyirrigation projects with the participation of the World Bank (WB) and the AsianDevelopment Bank (ADB).
The ministrywill create the best possible conditions for the two sides to fruitfullycooperate with each other, thus helping improve irrigation systems in Vietnam,he pledged.-VNA
