Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– The National Assembly (NA) on June 27 adopted the resolution on the International Financial Centre (IFC) in Vietnam, with 438 out of 447 legislators voting in favour, representing 91.63% of all NA deputies.

The resolution, comprising six chapters and 35 articles, will come into effect on September 1, 2025. Read full story

– The 9th session of the 15th National Assembly (NA) wrapped up on June 27, after 35 working days of seriousness, democracy, and high responsibility, with all the planned content and agenda completed, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed.

He stressed that during this session, the legislative body considered, discussed, and made decisions on a large volume of work with historic significance, covering many important issues closely linked to the demands for reform, institutional improvement, and streamlining of the organisational apparatus. – Party Secretary of the National Assembly (NA) and NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man chaired a conference on June 27 to announce major personnel decisions concerning the NA Party Committee for the 2020–2025 term.

Emphasising the importance of fulfilling the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress, NA Chairman Man urged the newly appointed officials to remain proactive in research, policy implementation, and delivering timely, accurate, and comprehensive advice in their assigned areas. – Vietnam is entering a new phase of engagement with UNESCO, demonstrating a stronger commitment and broader responsibility, according to Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

– Vietnam condemns all acts of violence against children and calls for the immediate cessation of violations of children's rights in armed conflicts, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, stressed on June 26.

– South Asia presents major trade opportunities for Vietnamese exporters due to its large demand for goods and relatively modest quality requirements compared to Vietnam’s traditional export markets, Le Thi Mai Anh from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) told a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City on June 26.

Anh noted that the South Asian region, comprising India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, has a combined population of over 1.8 billion, accounting for nearly a quarter of the global population. Among these, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are considered key potential markets for Vietnam to boost trade and investment cooperation. Read full story

– There's been a surge at Vietnamese container ports as businesses speed up deliveries during the 90-day pause on US reciprocal tariffs.

According to Vietcombank Securities (VCBS), in April and May, container volume rose 13% year-on-year, with Cai Mep-Thi Vai ports up 22%, Lach Huyen up 32% and Ho Chi Minh City ports up 8%. Read full story

– Vietnam’s largest electric vehicle maker VinFast has signed a strategic partnership with PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BCA), one of Indonesia’s largest private banks, to boost its distribution network and support the growth of the EV ecosystem in the country.

Under the agreement, BCA will offer flexible credit packages to VinFast’s network of dealers in Indonesia. The financial support will help dealers purchase VinFast electric vehicles and genuine parts, with tailored credit limits for regular purchases, peak season needs, and bulk transactions. Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
