Another Buddha statue sets new Asian record

Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, General Director of the Asian Book of Records, presented the award certificate to Thich Nu Ba La, head of the pagoda, in a ceremony on May 30.
The reinforced concrete statue, which obtained the Vietnamese Record on January 2, 2006, was built between 1963 and 1966 by architect Truong Dinh Y. The reclining statue is 49 metres long, representing the 49 years between Lord Buddha’s awakening and his attaining Nirvana.
On May 29, the Maitreya Buddha statue of Phat Lon Pagoda, An Hao commune, Tinh Bien district, southern An Giang province received a certificate recognising its entry into the Asian Book of Records as the largest Maitreya Buddha statue seated on a mountain top in Asia.-VNA
