Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian police arrested 57 Korean nationals over alleged links to an online scam organisation in the Southeast Asian country, just days after dozens of other suspects were deported, local authorities said on October 23.
In a statement, Cambodia’s National Anti-Cybercrime Committee said that police raided a building in Phnom Penh on October 22 that was suspected of hosting fraudulent operations. Nearly 90 people were detained during the operation, including 57 Koreans. Authorities also seized 126 computers and 30 mobile phones at the scene.
Two additional Koreans were rescued during Cambodia’s anti-fraud raids, while around 10 others were arrested, Yonhap News Agency reported on October 20, citing Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Cho Hyun.
Over the weekend, Cambodia sent home over 60 Koreans who had been held for their alleged links to "pig butchering" scams, so-called for the method of building trust with victims over time before stealing funds.
Last week, Korean foreign ministry officials met with Cambodia's Prime Minister and local police to discuss fake job and scam centres./.

Seventy of them were reported missing between January and August this year, while the 10 others have remained unaccounted for since last year, a ministry official told reporters, citing data filed by the Korean Embassy in Cambodia, the Yonhap News Agency reported.
