The events include the screening of the film “Age of Stupid”,subtitled in Vietnamese, which was followed by a debate on climatechange with a prominent panel. Both the activities took place atl’Espace – French Institute in Vietnam on June 17.

An online quiz on social media on climate change and how to tackle it byactions in people’s daily lives will be hosted on the EU Delegation'sFacebook page between June 18-24 (www.facebook.com/EUandVietnam).

Five winners of the quiz will be awarded withbrand-new bamboo bikes at a special prize award ceremony on June 26 atthe office of the European Union Delegation (Lotte Center), according toa press release issued by the EU Delegation to Vietnam and EU membercountries’ embassies on June 17.

European ClimateDiplomacy Day aims to raise public awareness about the impacts ofclimate change issues as well as consequences on current way of life andthat of future generation. This topic is especially relevant in Vietnamas the latter is among the countries that are most vulnerable toclimate change, said the press release.

In addition,the Day also aims to promote the 2015 Paris Climate Conference and thecollective actions of the EU and its 28 member states in the fightagainst climate change in Vietnam, it added.

Scientific observations show a phenomenon of an increase in the Earth'saverage temperature due to human activities. At the current rate ofgreenhouse gas emissions, the temperatures would rise between 3 degreesand 5 degrees Celsius by 2100, bringing about severe consequences suchas sea level rise and an increase in extreme weather events around theworld, including Vietnam.

The EU pursues ambitioustargets aiming to reduce its domestic greenhouse gas emissions at least40 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 level.-VNA

Ca Mau approves investment policy for waste-to-energy plant
