Hai Phong (VNA) – All communes and wards in the northern port city of Hai Phong have so far successfully conducted conferences to gather voter feedback and votes of confidence at places of residence for candidates running for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, in line with prescribed timelines and procedures.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hai Phong, the city had 33 candidates for the 16th NA, including 32 nominees and one self-nominated candidate.
Following consultations with voters at places of residence, the self-nominated candidate received less than 50% confidence, while all 32 nominated candidates secured unanimous support. As a result, only 32 candidates are eligible to proceed to the third round of consultations.
Among the 157 candidates for the municipal People’s Council, the vast majority received unanimous voter approval, while only one secured less than 50%. Consequently, 156 candidates are eligible and just one candidate deemed ineligible to the third round of consultations.
At these conferences, local voters reviewed candidate criteria, lists and brief biographies, and provided their candid and responsible feedback. The meetings were conducted in a serious, democratic and transparent manner, with broad participation from household representatives.
Most candidates were assessed as politically steadfast, morally sound and exemplary in lifestyle, with strong professional capacity, a high sense of responsibility, close ties to the people and active participation in local movements. Voters also hoped that, if elected, the candidates will continue to uphold their responsibilities, remain close to the people, and better safeguard the public’s legitimate rights and interests.
Conferences of this kind are a key step in the consultative process for nominating candidates, helping assess their political integrity, morality, lifestyle and close ties with the people. This process contributes to selecting qualified and capable representatives who truly reflect the will and aspirations of the public.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hai Phong is currently compiling results of voter consultations for candidates to commune-level People’s Councils.
The third round of consultations are scheduled to take place on February 12./.
