Hanoi (VNA) – The capital city of Hanoi welcomed over 28.22 million visitors in the first 10 months of 2025, achieving 91% of its annual target and surpassing the figure recorded in 2024.
Statistics from the Hanoi Department of Tourism show that the total tourism revenue approximated 110 trillion VND (4.17 million USD) in 10 months, up 20% year-on-year. As many as 6.17 million foreigners travelled to Hanoi during the period, up 22% compared to the same period last year.
In October alone, the capital city served about 2.27 million visitors including an estimated 695,000 international arrivals (up 17.8% year-on-year). The tourism earnings totalled nearly 9.93 trillion VND, an increase of 11.9%.
Strategies to attract international tourists
The Hanoi Department of Tourism has planned to organise a series of diverse activities featuring unique products to stimulate travel demand during the peak travel season by the end of the year.
Notably, thanks to its strategy for diversifying inner-city tourism products and expanding experiential routes to suburban areas, Hanoi has successfully attracted and retained a large number of international visitors who are staying longer and spending more.
The positive results were attributed to efforts made by travel agencies in promoting market connectivity and tapping into new visitor sources.
As of mid-October, Hanoi was home to 2,687 travel companies, including 2,101 international operators. These have significantly contributed to energising the local tourism ecosystem.
Alongside market activities, the municipal Department of Tourism has intensified efforts to update accommodation data, implement the “Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods” campaign in the tourism sector, revise its development plan for 2026, and propose hosting the Visit Vietnam Year 2026.
In 2025, Hanoi aims to welcome 31 million visitors, including 7.5 million international arrivals, accounting for over 30% of Vietnam’s target of 25 million international travellers. It eyes 130 trillion VND in tourism revenue.
Year-end breakthrough activities
Director of the municipal Tourism Department Dang Huong Giang said the agency has launched a nighttime experiential tourism product at the national special relic site of Soc Temple and a community-based tourism model associated with traditional culture of ethnic minorities in Yen Xuan commune. The new initiatives are expected to create new highlights, helping extend visitors’ stays and stimulate their spending.
Hanoi has also fostered tourism ties with southwestern provinces, desmonstrating its role as a national tourism connection centre, she noted.
To enable local communities to play a central role in sustainable tourism development, a number of training programmes have been organised to enhance the capacity of individuals working at community-based tourism sites like Muong Coc in My Duc commune.
Giang said that as November is identified as a key period of the year when Hanoi enters the peak travel season, the department will also organise a series of events such as the Hanoi Autumn Festival, the 2025 Ao Dai Festival, and programmes for connecting destinations between travel businesses and local areas.
Many experiential, agricultural, and community-based tours are being perfected and will debut in the time ahead, serving as a springboard for the capital to make some strong breakthroughs in 2026./.
