Participants noted that economic cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia has developed strongly in recent years, building on their 70-year traditional friendship and especially after the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March last year.

Two-way trade reached 17.2 billion USD last year, approaching the target of 18 billion USD set for 2028. Tourism exchanges have also recovered strongly, with 203,000 Indonesian visitors travelling to Vietnam in 2025, more than double the number recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnamese enterprises have made notable contributions to these results through their growing presence in the Indonesian market.

Vingroup has begun developing an electric vehicle ecosystem there through the presence of VinFast, Xanh SM and V-Green. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have been effectively operating flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Jakarta and Bali. Other companies such as FPT, The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) Co. Ltd and TH True Milk are also studying opportunities to expand their operations in Indonesia.

Businesses’ representatives spoke highly of the support provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia in facilitating their investment and business activities. They also agreed that Indonesia offers enormous potential, as it is the largest economy in ASEAN and a member of the G20, with a population of about 280 million and a strong consumer market.

Deputy FM Cuong spoke highly of the determination and efforts of Vietnamese enterprises to expand investment and business activities in Indonesia, affirming that economic diplomacy and development-oriented diplomacy have remained key priorities of the Ministry in recent years.

He urged businesses to continue demonstrating their pioneering and innovative spirit in order to strengthen connectivity and cooperation between the two economies, delivering practical benefits to their people and contributing to further fostering the Vietnam–Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership.

He affirmed that the Ministry will continue accompanying Vietnamese enterprises with a people- and business-centred approach, helping them expanding their business in international and regional markets, including Indonesia./.
