- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has requesting the development of Vietnam's maritime industry into a strategic industrial foundation serving the country's goal of becoming a strong coastal nation, saying the sector must underpin the marine economy, safeguard national defence and security, and strengthen strategic autonomy.

Chairing a working session with relevant agencies on developing the national maritime industry in Hanoi on July 14, the top leader said Vietnam must maintain core capabilities in vessel design, building, repair, conversion and technical maintenance to ensure resilience against supply-chain disruptions, market volatility and emergencies. - Law dissemination and education must become a driving force in fostering a culture of respect for the rule of law rather than being carried out in a routine or perfunctory manner, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed on July 14.

The chief legislator made the request while addressing the second phase of the NA Standing Committee's fourth session, which focused on the draft revised Law on Law Dissemination and Education. Read full story

- Politburo member, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for Internal Affairs Le Minh Tri met with Wang Huning, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in Beijing on July 14, during his working visit to China.

Tri, who is also Standing Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee for Prevention and Control of Corruption, Wastefulness and Negative Phenomena, conveyed greetings from General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and State President To Lam to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping, and affirmed that Vietnam consistently regards strengthening its Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China as a top priority. - Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu on July 14 chaired a conference with provincial and municipal Party Committees as well as Party agencies and units to review performance in the second quarter of 2026 and outline key tasks for the coming period.

Presenting a summary report, Permanent Deputy Chief of the Party Central Committee's Office Nguyen Thi Thu Ha said macroeconomic stability was largely maintained in the second quarter, inflation remained under control and major economic balances were ensured. GDP was estimated to grow 8.39% in the quarter, bringing six-month growth to 8.18%, the highest since 2011. Nine localities recorded double-digit growth above 10%, accounting for 18.6% of national GDP. Read full story

- Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung paid an official visit to Indonesia on July 14, where he co-chaired the sixth meeting of the Vietnam - Indonesia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation and, together with his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono, signed the 2026–2030 Action Plan to realise the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Sugiono praised Trung's visit and co-chairing of the commission’s sixth meeting, an important mechanism for cooperation across various sectors. Read full story

- Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc hosted a reception for visiting Lao Minister of Agriculture and Environment Linkham Douangsavanh in Hanoi on July 14, calling for closer bilateral cooperation in agriculture and environment and the implementation of high-level agreements between the two countries.

During the reception, Tuc said Linkham's visit provides an opportunity for the agriculture and environment ministries to review cooperation, particularly the implementation of high-level agreements, the outcomes of the 48th meeting of the Vietnam–Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and the results of recent visits by high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and countries. - Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to extend the implementation of their bilateral Road Transport Agreement and related protocols to the Tan Nam (Tay Ninh, Vietnam) –Meun Chey (Prey Veng, Cambodia) border gate pair, a move expected to strengthen cross-border transport and trade.

At a bilateral meeting on July 14, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Tay Ninh People's Committee Nguyen Hong Thanh said applying the agreement to the international border gate pair is key to lowering logistics costs, boosting competitiveness, expanding market access, attracting investment and fostering socio-economic development in both countries. - More than one million people visited the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in the first half of 2026, including over 256,000 international visitors, as the site hosted numerous state tribute ceremonies, visits by foreign leaders, and ministerial-level delegations.

NA Standing Committee reviews central bank, anti-money laundering bills

According to the proposal, the SBV law amendments would codify existing foreign exchange rules by incorporating Article 22 of the Foreign Exchange Ordinance into law. The draft also revises the central bank’s special financial mechanism, shifting authority over its financial management regulations from the Prime Minister to the Government.
