Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary To Lam on July 1 inspected the operations of the newly restructured two-tier local administration model in Phuc Thinh commune, Tay Ho ward, and the public administration service centre of Hanoi.

During the visit, the General Secretary examined infrastructure and the online settlement of administrative procedures serving residents and businesses. The operations of these newly formed administrative units have remained stable and uninterrupted, with public services being processed smoothly. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 1 chaired a meeting of the Government Party Committee’s Standing Board to discuss a number of important issues, including a draft scheme aimed at promoting Vietnamese culture globally and absorbing world cultural quintessence.

The plan aims to develop a progressive Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity, integrated with and absorbing global civilisational values. Read full story

- Sectoral and provincial planning schemes must concretise and conform to national and regional master plans, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed while chairing a meeting of the Government Party Committee's Standing Board on July 1 to discuss the draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Planning Law.

According to a report by the Ministry of Finance, in addition to the Planning Law, there are currently 60 other laws and ordinances related to planning activities. The whole country has 108 out of 110 master plans approved. However, a number of challenges have emerged during the enforcement and review of the Planning Law. Read full story

- Vietnam and Egypt should continue their coordination and mutual support at multilateral and international forums, in line with each country’s interests and in respect for international law, recommended State President Luong Cuong while receiving outgoing Egyptian Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama in Hanoi on July 1.

- As the whole nation implemented the two-tier local government system on July 1, all 168 wards, communes, and special zones in Ho Chi Minh City swiftly came into full operation, with public servants beginning to process administrative procedures seamlessly from the very first day.

- As Vietnam is gearing up for its fourth dialogue with the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on July 7-8, the country is doubling down on its commitment to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), one of the world’s most important human rights treaties.

The treaty, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1966 and came in force in 1976, enshrines a wide array of civil and political rights to individuals and counts 174 member states. Read full story

State President meets outgoing Saudi Arabian, Philippine ambassadors
