Ca Mau (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Quang Phuong has urged the southernmost province of Ca Mau to continue properly implementing central authorities' directives and resolutions regarding the upcoming elections while ensuring security, social order, and full voter participation.
Leading a delegation to inspect preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure on March 9, Phuong called on the province to intensify communications to raise public awareness and encourage voters to exercise their civic rights and obligations.
He emphasised the need to create favourable conditions for all eligible voters to participate in the elections, including fishermen working at sea for long periods. Special attention should be given to ethnic minority communities, residents in remote and disadvantaged areas, the elderly living alone, and people with disabilities, so they can fully take part in voting.
Speaking at the working session, the NA Vice Chairman praised Ca Mau’s preparations, noting that the province has overcome difficulties and implemented tasks on schedule.
However, as the Election Day (March 15) approaches, he asked local authorities and relevant units to closely monitor and promptly address complaints and denunciations related to the elections, if any, while ensuring that candidates actively engage with voters and communications activities are strengthened.
Phuong also stressed that localities must develop appropriate plans to organise the elections in line with their specific conditions.
Ensuring absolute security and social order before, during and after the elections, particularly on the Election Day, must remain a top priority, he noted, adding that contingency plans should be readied to respond quickly and effectively to unexpected situations.
The Ca Mau provincial Election Committee was requested to review and finalise the voter lists. Particularly, attention should be paid to fishermen and those working far from home, with flexible measures such as setting up mobile ballot boxes at border guard stations so they can cast ballots before heading offshore.
According to the provincial Election Committee, preparations for the elections are largely complete. Measures for ensuring political security and social safety has been implemented as planned.
The provincial Public Security Department has strengthened security monitoring and deployed measures to counter sabotage plots. They have also reviewed and cross-checked voter information with the national resident database to ensure accurate and updated data, while coordinating with commune-level authorities to update voter lists and polling station information through voter management software.
Communications efforts have also been stepped up to improve awareness among officials, Party members and residents about the elections. So far, no complaints or petitions related to the elections have been reported in the province.
On March 8, Phuong and the delegation inspected election preparations in Dat Mui commune and visited several polling stations to review the situation and provide guidance./.
