Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam People’s Army has provided support to build or repair 17,027 homes for disadvantaged households across the country, contributing significantly to the Government’s social security goals.
The campaign, launched in response to a directive from the Prime Minister, has seen the military mobilise more than 86,000 personnel, over 2,000 vehicles, and nearly 300,000 workdays to help families in need. The total funding allocated for construction and repairs has exceeded 895.2 billion VND (approximately 34.3 million USD).
Among the 38 provinces and cities that have completed their housing improvement targets, nine provinces directly supported by military units have successfully eliminated makeshift and dilapidated housing.
Speaking at a recent hybrid conference in Hanoi, Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Vice Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, emphasised that the army’s efforts demonstrate its enduring commitment to joining hands with ministries, sectors, and localities to better ensure living conditions for those in difficulties.
He called on all units to maintain momentum and complete the Government’s revised goal of eliminating substandard houses nationwide by August 31, two months earlier than the previous deadline.
Military units were instructed to closely coordinate with local authorities to accelerate the work, especially in the context of the two-tier local government model officially operating on July 1./.
