Hanoi (VNA) – More than 2,000 people joined a run in Hanoi on March 21 to promote energy efficiency and respond to Earth Hour 2026, as part of Vietnam’s national programme on economical and efficient energy use for 2019–2030.
The launch ceremony and run were organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space, drawing participation from representatives of ministries, sectors, international organisations, businesses, social organisations, and the public.
Held under the theme “Green Innovation – Green Future,” the event brought together civil servants, workers, business representatives, running enthusiasts, and amateur athletes from various clubs.
From early morning, participants gathered around the West Lake to complete a 3km distance in a green and vibrant setting, helping spread the message of environmental protection through sport. The event also featured several ambassadors, including footballer Do Duy Manh, actor Le Hai, and Pham Thuy Duong, a Top 5 finisher at Miss Vietnam 2024 and ambassador for tourism and environmental causes.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long stressed that as Vietnam enters a new phase of development requiring rapid and sustainable growth, energy efficiency is no longer merely a technical solution but a key driver for innovation, cost optimisation, and enhanced competitiveness.
He noted that the ministry has implemented various programmes and policies to promote energy efficiency, support enterprises in upgrading technologies and improving production processes, and contribute to the country’s green transition. Efforts are also underway to promote the use of clean and biofuels in transport, helping diversify energy sources.
Amid global uncertainties and growing challenges related to energy security and market volatility, improving energy efficiency has become an urgent priority, he added.
Following the Prime Minister’s directions, the ministry is developing energy-saving scenarios, intensifying public awareness campaigns, and preparing for a roadmap to transition to biofuels. Policies issued by the Party and State, including key strategic resolutions, underscore the importance of energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and environmental protection as both a responsibility and a shared benefit for society.
The year 2026 marks 15 years since Vietnam first joined the global Earth Hour campaign, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development./.
