RoK suggests establishing comprehensive strategic partnership with ASEAN

Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign Minister of theRepublic of Korea (RoK) Park Jin on June 16 proposed establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership with the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next year during his talks with ASEAN SecretaryGeneral Kao Kim Hourn in Seoul.

The meeting took place in the context that the RoK hassteadily focused on strengthening relations with the 10-member ASEAN, thecountry's crucial partner for diplomatic and economic cooperation, the RoK'sYonhap News Agency reported.

Park made the proposal to create a new turning pointfor the development of bilateral ties, as next year marks the 35th anniversaryof the establishment of the dialogue partnership between the two sides.

In response, Kao expressed expectations thatcooperation between the regional bloc and the RoK will develop further, andcalled for close cooperation in the process of creating the strategic partnership.

The ASEAN chief arrived in Seoul on June15 for a four-day visit on his first trip to the RoK since taking office in January./.

Indonesia records series of earthquakes in northern regions

Thailand, Laos aim to boost bilateral trade

Laos is Thailand’s 7th largest trading partner in ASEAN and 18th globally. From January to October 2025, two-way trade grew by 18.65% to 8.18 billion USD, with Thai exports increasing by 16.90% to 4.81 billion USD and imports rising by 21.23% to 3.60 billion USD.
