Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese contestant Do Hai Long – a student from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology – has won the gold medal in the MOS Word 365 Apps category.

Vietnam’s team secured one gold and one bronze, and saw all its contestants place in the global top 10 at the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship 2025.

With these results, the delegation ranked among the top 5 strongest teams in the competition. The award ceremony took place last night in the US, and the news was announced on July 31 by IIG Vietnam – the organisation in charge of the competition in Vietnam.

The gold medal winner was Do Hai Long, a student from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, in the MOS Word 365 Apps category. Meanwhile, Luong Son Tung, a student from the Foreign Trade University, won the bronze medal in the MOS Excel 365 Apps category.

Long first took part in the competition while in Grade 11, winning the third prize at the national round in the MOS Word 2016 category. Since then, he has persevered with four years of training and participated in the competition three times.

Speaking after the award ceremony, Long said: “I was very surprised and deeply moved when I heard my name called for the gold medal. This is as a result of my tireless efforts since my very first time competing, and it will be a motivation for me to strive even harder in the future.”

Tung has also competed for two consecutive years. After earning the second prize at the national level in his first year and missing the chance to attend the world finals, he was determined to train harder to achieve a better result this year.

Tung shared that he felt very proud when his name and Vietnam’s name were announced at the world’s largest informatics competition.

In addition to Long and Tung, the other Vietnamese contestants also posted impressive results, with Vuong Thu Huong (from the Vietnam Maritime University) named among the world’s top 5 in the MOS Word 2019 category, Nguyen Minh Duc (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) top 7 in the MOS PowerPoint 2019, Nghiem Thi My Linh (Vietnam Maritime University) top 9 in the MOS Excel 2019, and Nguyen Thai Son (Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ninh Binh) top 10 in the MOS PowerPoint 365 Apps.

Compared to other competitions, the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship awards a very limited number of medals. The contest consists of six categories, namely Word 365 Apps, Excel 365 Apps, PowerPoint 365 Apps, Word 2019, Excel 2019, and PowerPoint 2019. Each category awards only one set of medals (1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze).

Doan Nguyen Van Khanh, Executive Director of IIG Vietnam – the co-organiser of the national competition, remarked that this year’s Vietnamese team was particularly strong.

According to her, to represent the Southeast Asian nation at the world finals, the students had to outperform nearly 2,000 young IT talents, selected from 230 teams representing universities, colleges, vocational schools, and high schools nationwide. Many had participated multiple times. The knowledge and experience gained from domestic competitions, along with training support from the organisers before the world finals, helped the contestants enter the global stage with confidence and perform at their best against peers from hundreds of countries.

The achievements this year continue the country’s impressive track record over 16 years of participation in the MOS World Championship finals.

According to the organisers, Vietnam has so far won 23 world medals at the contest, including five gold, four silver, and 14 bronze, along with many other Top 10 global rankings./.
