Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Chu Pham Ngoc Hienon March 18 stressed the need for Vietnam to build a national strategyon climate change as natural disasters occur more frequently.
He told a seminar to learn about the UK experiences in its climatechange legislation that climate change must be added to all developmentstrategies and plans of all sectors and localities and there must belegal documents on the issue.
According to the official,Vietnam has been coordinating with international organisations toimplement climate change-related international treaties and takemeasures to adapt itself to climate change.
Vietnamparticipated in and ratified the UN framework Treaty on Climate Changeand the Kyoto Protocol along with boosting the completion of legaldocuments and creating a legal foundation for natural disaster controland mitigation.
At the event, British Ambassador toVietnam Antony Stockes praised Vietnam for its effort in coping withclimate change, including a national programme on climate change in2008./.
